Two posts for the price of one!

Today you get 2 posts: one about Emma and the other about my supper last night with Jessica and her boyfriend Simon.

I finally meet up with Emma, another exchange student from my school, last night. It was so nice to see her and now I have someone to explore and study with-- added bonus: French is her native language! The picture is of us at a party at the dorms we stay.

Last night my exchange partner, Jessica, invited me to her and her boyfriends apartment for supper (picture below). I greatly appreciated the hospitality and the food. One interesting thing they do is put flavored syrup in their water-- I don't know if this is a Swiss custom or not; I'll check into it. I had one glass of water with mint syrup and another glass with grenadine syrup-- have to admit it wasn't half bad.

We had a great conversation on some of the differences between the US and Switzerland or Europe in general. One item that came up was nakedness and advertisements with a sexual nature. We found that there is quite a difference in what is deemed as acceptable/unacceptable. We even found an add in the newspaper that shows the difference very well. This perfume advertisement (shown below) would be viewed as vulgar and very quickly rejected by many in the US but here it is viewed as normal.

Today Emma and I went on a long walk around campus and the Lake area. Had a good time and it was great to see a familiar face. I even taught her how to skip a rock on the water-- with a little practice, she'll be a pro! Here are some pictures of our trek:

Trying to pet the swans-- they weren't very cooperative.

Breathing in Switzerland.

Me and Emma sitting in chairs carved out of tree stumps-- I don't know why she made me sit in the one my butt barely fit in!

Sitting by the lake side discussing finance courses....school starts tomorrow so the posts may become more sporadic, but I'll do my best to keep them coming.
