One month...

Well, I made it through my first month in Switzerland. It has been an eye opening experience and I coming away with some great experiences-- I realize that sounds about as vague as I can be, but it is the standard response.

My blog isn't super-sized as promised, but I will shortly be posting another blog on my trip last week to Geneva as soon as I gather the pictures from Seliz and Emma because they took the group pics with their cameras.

In no particular order here a few random things I've learned in my month....

1. If you go to a restaurant expect sub-par service, great food, and a monstrous bill. Also expect to stay for at least an hour and a half.
2. Most Swiss stores and shops all close around 6 pm and are not open on Sunday; if you need really really need something at the store you are screwed.
3. Hot chocolate isn't necessarily a drink. Went out with the GBU group one night for hot chocolate and I got a mug full of hot rich chocolate pudding with whipped cream on top...AWESOME!

4. The scenery is awesome here...

5. I'm liking the idea of being able to have a beer on the street-- its much cheaper to have a beer or two on the way to the dance club than at the dance club.

6. School is difficult here, but I feel like I'm learning a lot of good information.

7. I don't know if its the chocolate or something in the water, but something strange in happening to me.....

8. I'm beginning to feel more and more Swiss as my American supplies are dwindling and I replace them with Swiss equivalents...no more American chewing gum, tooth paste, or deodorant.

9 So far, I've been getting by pretty well without knowing French. I wish I would have had more time to take a few French classes before I came. Luckily Emma has been great at helping me cross any language barrier.... I owe her big time for all the translations. Thanks, Emma--even though I'm certain you don't read my blog.

10. People ask me what I miss most about the USA. Its definitely not the crowded freeways of LA or the landscape and weather of Kansas......its definitely the people! I miss you all. Take care. Bonne nuit (I think it means goodnight......or at least that's what I hear people say!)

Here's something else you may not have known: Bill Berry, former drummer for REM, suffered a brain aneurysm onstage in Lausanne.

Wee bit o' trivia for the day.

Thanks...an older French woman walked by as I was taking the "boob" picture and was laughing and said something like, "How handsome!"

We miss you too, but I think we may talk to you more now that you are half way around the world instead of half way across the country. Love, MOM and DAD

Yet another wonder of the internet. It is so nice being able to talk on the "phone" on the internet!
